Onsemi (NASDAQ: ON) launches its first real-time, indirect time-of-flight (iToF) sensor, Hyperlux? The ID series is capable of high-precision long-distance measurement and 3D imaging of fast-moving objects. The Hyperlux ID series adopts Anson's new proprietary global shutter pixel architecture and comes with built-in storage, which can capture complete scenes and perform real-time depth measurements. This innovative method breaks through the limitations of standard iToF sensors, achieving a depth perception of up to 30 meters, which is four times that of standard iToF sensors, and has a smaller external size. In addition, this sensor series can simultaneously generate black and white images and depth information. By combining these two outputs, this sensor series can provide a comprehensive view of the environment without the need to separately configure sensors for visual and depth data.

Therefore, the Hyperlux ID series achieves simplified design and industry-leading ultra deep sensing capabilities, enabling it to work in dynamic scene conditions and capture fast-moving objects, which was previously impossible to achieve.

With the widespread application of automation and robotics technology in the industrial field, quickly and efficiently obtaining high-precision depth information has become crucial for improving production efficiency and safety in complex environments. However, so far, the application of iToF sensors has been limited due to their limited range, poor performance under harsh lighting conditions, and inability to calculate depth for moving objects.

Due to its ability to accurately measure moving objects and high-resolution images, the Hyperlux ID series will help reduce errors and downtime, optimize manufacturing system processes, and thus lower operating costs. In addition, the Hyperlux ID series is also suitable for consumer applications such as facial recognition, gesture detection, and 3D video conferencing.

The Hyperlux ID series is highly suitable for a wide range of industrial environments, such as:

Automation and Robotics: Improving the safety of factory workshops by detecting objects for better navigation and obstacle avoidance.
Manufacturing and Quality Control: By measuring the volume and shape of objects, detecting defects, and ensuring that products meet quality standards.
Logistics and Material Handling: Optimizing warehouse management and transportation processes by measuring the position, size, and proportion of pallets and goods.
Agriculture and Planting: Monitor crop growth and health by measuring plant height, detecting diseases, and optimizing irrigation and fertilization processes.
Access control system: provides high-precision and accurate facial recognition for payment terminals, home and commercial entrance systems, etc.

The Hyperlux ID sensor series integrates global shutter architecture and iToF technology to achieve precise and fast depth perception. IToF technology perceives depth by measuring the phase shift of reflected light emitted from one or more vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSEL). The proprietary pixel architecture enables the sensor to simultaneously capture and store four different light phases in one exposure, instantly capturing the complete scene and improving the accuracy of depth measurement. In addition, global shutter technology synchronizes all sensor pixels with VCSEL, significantly reducing ambient infrared noise from other light sources. The built-in deep processing function can also output real-time results without the need for expensive external memory and high-performance processors.

The Hyperlux ID series not only has higher resolution and better ambient light suppression capabilities than other iToF sensors on the market, but its integrated processing capabilities have also left a deep impression on us. This feature can generate depth, confidence, and intensity maps at high speed, making it particularly suitable for capturing moving objects Thanks to our close collaboration with Anson, we were able to quickly develop and expand our 3D camera series, launching a cost-effective time-of-flight camera for large-scale indoor and outdoor applications, "said Alexander Lewinsky, Managing Director of IDS Imaging Development Systems

The Hyperlux ID series includes a 1.2 megapixel global shutter and a 3.5 μ m back illuminated (BSI) pixel sensor. The AF0130 model also comes with processing capabilities, making integration simpler and reducing system costs. For customers who wish to integrate their own deep detection algorithms, AF0131 can be chosen to add greater flexibility to their systems.
